Time Management Tips

Organize Your Study Time
Distance learning through online courses requires more time than most students anticipate. Recognize that you have other daily commitments to family, work, and friends and try to set up a schedule that fits in with these other time commitments.

How much time do I have to complete the course?
This course takes approximately 8 hours, and must be completed within 20 days (including weekends) from the start date of the course (including your final examination). The course will end at 3:00 p.m. on the 20th day. The examination must be witnessed in-person by an approved Invigilator for you to receive a FOODSAFE Certificate (for more information on invigilation, click here).

If you think you will need the full 20 days (includes weekends) to finish the course we recommend you split the 20-day course into two parts.
Part 1) First 15 days - Complete the 9 units. Be sure to complete the quiz at the end of each unit to practice for the final exam.
As you move through the units treat it like a book -- go page by page. Be sure to look into scheduling your invigilator to meet face-to-face to write your final exam for the certificate. This could take some time so don't leave it until the last minute!

Part 2) Last 5 days - You should have completed all your course work and the quizzes up to and including Unit 9. You should also have scheduled your final exam invigilator for a time within these last 5 days to meet face-to-face to write the exam. Schedule this as early as you possibly can, since invigilators are busy and may not be available for the time you planned to write your final exam. You can also email your instructor and ask for suggestions on course time management. NOTE: this is only a suggestion; you can complete the course more quickly if you wish to.
